Shopping at Istanbul

We shopped at Eqyptian or Spice Market, close to New Mosque which was completed in the 17th century. This market was built in 1660 as part of New Mosque complex. There are many small shops and sell spice, Turkish chilly paste, various kinds of nut and cheese, honeys, pistachios, cloths, Turkish delight, vegetables to fresh seafood. They also took us to Grand Bazaar, which was established in middle of 15th century. It can be entered by several gate ways and it is easy to get lost in the bazaar so the guide gave us gate name in a small piece of paper to remind us. There are almost 4,000 shops and sell apparel made of leather, carpet, meerschaum pipe, mosaic, Turkish glassware, jewelry, handicrafts, and etc. and traditional Turkish cafe. Bargain is a must, someone can get up to 40%-50% discount, but I am not a good bargainer.

Lots of spice sold in Spice Market, of course.

Various kinds of nuts, dried fruit, and very sweet Turkish delight.

P.Ou closely observed honey and cheese sold at Spice Market.
